This bookmark was designed to fit a book measuring 8" tall. (Instructions for 7" and 9.5" provided in brackets)

Materials


Worsted weight cotton – small amount

Hook: H (5mm)

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Special Stitches


Slip Stitch to form a ring:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Slip Stitch (sl st):

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Insert the hook into the next stitch as shown in figure below and then draw a loop through this stitch and also through the original stitch on hook.

 

 

Instructions


Pattern written for 8" book. Instructions for 7" and 9.5" in brackets.

 

Using worsted weight and H hook ch 50 (44, 58); join with sl st to first st to form a ring being careful not to twist chain. (See "Slip stitch to form a ring" in Special Stitches)

 

*Ch 1; sl st in next ch; repeat from * until a total of 25 (22, 29) sts have been worked; ch 5 (this forms the loop where the tassel will be attached); sl st in next ch; **ch 1, sl st in next st; repeat from ** around; join with sl st to top of first st; fasten off.

 

Attach worsted weight on other side of starting chain with sl st; * ch 1, sl st in next ch; repeat from * around; join with sl st to top of first st; fasten off.

 

Weave in all ends.

 

Cut (4) 8" pieces of cotton

 

Cut and fold (4) 8" pieces of cotton in half. Use the crochet hook to draw folded end through the ch-5 loop from the back to the front; pull the loose ends through the folded section and pull to knot securely.
