Designer Ideas:
The square used to make a potholder could be used as a granny square for an afghan.
The square used to make the potholder could be made using a J hook and then it
would be a square dishcloth.



Materials:
To make dishcloth, worsted weight coaster and potholder
White: 1 ounce of worsted weight cotton
Red: 3/4 ounce of worsted weight cotton
Blue: 1 ounce of worsted weight cotton
Hooks: G and J

For sportweight coaster:
Small amount of sportweight red, white and blue
2.5mm hook

Abbreviations:
sc: single crochet
sl: slip
st(s): stitch(es)
dc: double crochet
BLO: back loop only
FLO: front loop only:

Gauge: just be consistent

Size:
Dishcloth: approximately 10.5"
Coaster: approximately 5"
Potholder: approximately 6-7"
Sportweight Coaster: approximately 4.5"

Instructions:
Dishcloth:
Rnd 1: With red and J hook ch 2; work 8 sc in second ch from hook; join with sl st to top of first st. (8 sc)

Rnd 2: ch 1, work 2 sc in same st as joining and then work 2 sc in each st around; join with sl st to top of first st; fasten off. (16 sts)

Rnd 3: Attach white in any st with sl st; ch 1, work sc in same st as joining, ch 2, skip next st, *sc in next st, ch 2; repeat from * around; join with sl st in top of first st. (8 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 4: sl st to first ch-2 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc) work 4 more dc in same ch-2 sp; work 5 dc in each ch-2 space around; join with sl st to top of first st; fasten off. (40 dc)

Rnd 5: Attach blue with sl st in any st; ch 1, work sc in same st as joining and work sc in each st around; join with sl st to top of first st. (40 sts)

Rnd 6: ch 1, work 2 sc in same st as joining, sc in next 2 sts; work 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts; repeat from * around to last 4 sts; work 2 sc in next st, work sc in next 3 sts;; join with sl st to top of first st.(53 sts)

Rnd 7: ch 1; work sc in same st as joining and then work sc in each st around increasing 3 sts evenly spaced; join with sl st to top of first st; fasten off. (56 sts)

Rnd 8: Attach white with sl st in any st; ch 1, work sc in same st as joining, ch 1, skip next st, *sc in next st. ch 1; repeat from * around; join with sl st in top of first st. 28 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 9: sl st to first ch-1 sp; ch 3 (counts as first dc) work 2 more dc in same ch-1 sp; work 3 dc in each ch-1 space around; join with sl st to top of first st; fasten off. (84 dc)

Rnd 10: Attach red with sl st in any st; ch 1, work sc in same st as joining and work sc in each st around; join with sl st to top of first st.

Rnd 11: ch 1, sc in same st as joining; sc in each st around; join with sl st to top of first st; fasten off.

Rnd 12: Attach blue with sl st in any st; ch 1, work sc in same st as joining and sc in each st around; join with sl st to top of first st.

Rnd 13: Using both loops sl st in each st around; join with sl st to top of first st; fasten off.

Worsted Weight Coaster:
Rnd 1: With red and J hook ch 2; work 8 sc in second ch from hook; join with sl st to top of first st. (8 sc)

Rnd 2: ch 1, work 2 sc in same st as joining and then work 2 sc in each st around; join with sl st to top of first st; fasten off. (16 sts)

Potholder:
Make 2:

Rnd 9: sl st to first ch-1 sp; ch 3 (counts as first dc) work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) (makes a corner) in same sp as first dc, work 2 sc in next 6 ch-1 sps, work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-1 sp, work 2 sc in next 6 ch-1 sps, work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-1 sp, work 2 sc in next 6 ch-1 sps, join with sl st to top of first st. Fasten off.

Rnd 10: Attach red with sl st in any ch-2 sp of corner st; ch 1, work 3 sc in same ch-2 sp as joining, sc in each st across to next corner ch-2 sp; work 3 sc in ch-2 space, work sc in each st to next corner ch-2 sp; work 3 sc in ch-2 sp, sc in each st along last side; join with sl st to top of first st.

Rnd 11: Using FLO sl st in each st around; join with sls t to top of first st; fasten off.

Rnd 12: Attach red with sl st in any center sc of corner st; ch 1, work 3 sc in same st as joining, sc in each st across to next center corner st; work 3 sc in center corner st , work sc in each st to next center corner sc; work 3 sc in center corner st, sc in each st along last side; join with sl st to top of first st.

Rnd 13: repeat rnd 10.

Rnd 14 and 15: repeat rnd 11 and 12 using blue. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Assembly:

Holding pieces so that RS are on the outside join blue with sl st in any BLO from rnd 14; sl st in each st around using BLO left from rnd 14. To make hanger at end of round ch 14 and then sl st to first st.

Sportweight Coaster:

Instructions:

Using sportweight and 2.5mm hook follow same instructions as for round dishcloth.
