Instructions for Red, White and Blue Christmas Stocking:
Size: 20"

Materials:
worsted weight
red (3 oz)
white - (2 oz)
blue: 2 oz
hook: 5.5 mm (I) or size required to achieve gauge.
tapestry needle for weaving in ends and sewing

Gauge:
4 sts = 1”; 4 rows = 1”

Abbreviations:
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
st: stitch
sl: slip
fphdc: front post half double crochet
FLO: front loop only
BLO: back loop only
Sc dec: single crochet decrease
Sc inc: single crochet increase
RS: right side
WS: wrong side
lsc: long single crochet

Special Stitches:
Sc dec: (single crochet decrease) also referred to as (sc next 2 sts tog) (Insert hook in st indicated, yo, draw yarn through st) twice, yo, draw yarn through al three loops on hook.
Sc inc: (single crochet increase) Work 2 sts in sp or st indicated.
Lsc: long single crochet. To work this st work same as sc but work in row below the st indicated. The longer stitches in this diagram show working in the row below.



FPhdc: front post half double crochet.


Side 1:
Row 1:With 5.5mm hook and red ch 31. sc in second ch from hook and sc in each ch across; ch 1, turn. (30 sts) Mark as RS.
Row 2: Sc in each st across to last st; work sc inc in last st; ch 1, turn. (31 sts)
Row 3: Sc in each st across to last st; work sc inc in last st; ch 1, turn. (32 sts)
Row 4: Sc in each st across to last st; work sc inc in last st; ch 1, turn. (33 sts)
Row 5: Sc in each st across to last st; work sc inc in last st; ch 1, turn. (34 sts)
Row 6: Sc in each st across to last st; work sc inc in last st; ch 1, turn. (35 sts)
Row 7: Sc in each st across to last st; work sc inc in last st; ch 1, turn. (36 sts)
Rows 8- 13: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 14: sc dec over first 2 sts, sc in each st across; ch 1, turn. (35 sts)
Row 15: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 16: sc dec over first 2 sts, sc in each st across; ch 1, turn. (34 sts)
Row 17: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 18: sc dec over first 2 sts, sc in each st across; ch 1, turn. (33 sts)
Row 19: sc in each st across changing to white in last part of last st; ch 1, turn.
Row 20: we will only be using the first 23 sts. Sc in first st; lsc in next st; sc in next st; lsc in next st; repeat from * across ; ch 1, turn. (23 sts)
Row 21: sc in in first st snd sc in each st across to last st; work sc inc in last st. (25 sts)
Row 22: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 23: sc in each st across changing to blue in last part of last st; ch 1, turn.
Row 24: Sc in first st; lsc in next st; sc in next st; lsc in next st; repeat from * across ; ch 1, turn.
Row 25: sc inc in first st and sc in each st across to last st; work sc inc in last st. (27 sts)
Row 26: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 27: sc in each st across changing to red in last part of last st; ch 1, turn.
Row 28: Sc in first st; lsc in next st; sc in next st; lsc in next st; repeat from * across; ch 1, turn.
Row 29: sc inc in first st in each st across to last st; work sc inc in last st. (29 sts)
Row 30: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 31: sc in each st across changing to white in last part of last st; ch 1, turn.
Row 32: Sc in first st; lsc in next st; sc in next st; lsc in next st; repeat from * across; ch 1, turn.
Row 33: sc in each st across to last st; work sc inc in last st.
Row 34: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 35: sc in each st across changing to blue in last part of last st; ch 1, turn.
Repeat rows 32-35 in red, white, blue and red making a total of 51 rows. Fasten off.

Cuff:
Row 1:Holding RS of stocking towards you attach white with sl st in first st at top right.; ch 1, work sc in each st across, ch 1; turn. (29 sts)
Row 2: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 3: sc in first st, fphdc around next st, sc in next st, FPhdc around next st; repeat from * across; ch 1, turn.
Row 4: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 5: sc in first st, FPhdc around post of next st, sc in next st, FPhdc around post of next st; repeat from * aross; Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Side 2: Row 1:With 5.5mm hook and red ch 31. sc in second ch from hook and sc in each ch across; ch 1, turn. (30 sts) Mark as RS.
Row 2: work sc inc in first 2 sts ; sc in each st across; ch 1, turn. (31 sts)
Row 3: work sc inc in first 2 sts ; sc in each st across; ch 1, turn. (32 sts)
Row 4: work sc inc in first 2 sts ; sc in each st across; ch 1, turn. (33 sts)
Row 5: work sc inc in first 2 sts ; sc in each st across; ch 1, turn. (34 sts)
Row 6: work sc inc in first 2 sts ; sc in each st across; ch 1, turn. (35 sts)
Row 7: Sc inc in first st, sc in each st across to last st; ch 1, turn. (36 sts)
Rows 8- 13: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 14: sc across to last 2 sts; sc dec over last 2 sts, ch 1, turn. (35 sts)
Row 15: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 16: sc across to last 2 sts; sc dec over last 2 sts, ch 1, turn. (34 sts)
Row 17: sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 18: sc across to last 2 sts; sc dec over last 2 sts, ch 1, turn. (33 sts)
Row 19: sc in each st across . Fasten off.
Row 20: Holding stocking so RS in facing we will only be using the last 23 sts so leave first 10 sts unworked. Sc in first st; lsc in next st; sc in next st; lsc in next st; repeat from * across; ch 1, turn. (23 sts)
Row 21: sc inc in frst st; sc in each st across; ch 1, turn. (25 sts)
Complete by repeating rows 22- 51 from side 1.
Then work cuff as described in side 1.

Assembly:
Holding pieces so RS are facing each other sew stocking together around outside edges leaving top open. The seams can also be slip stitched if you prefer.
Weave in all ends and turn stocking so that RS is out.

Upper Edging and hanger:
Attach white with sl st in st near outermost seam as shown in diagram as point A.

Sc in each st around; ch 10, join with sl st to top of first st; sl st in each st around to ch-10 loop; work 10 sc in ch-10 loop and join with sl st in top of first st; fasten off.
