DESIGNER NOTE: IT SEEMS THAT MOST CANDY CANES ARE THE SAME
LENGTH BUT THEY ARE NOT ALL THE SAME CIRCUMFERENCE. FOR "FATTER"
CANDY CANES USE DTR (DOUBLE TRIPLE) INSTEAD OF TR (TRIPLE) IN ROW 1.
Instructions for Candy Cane Cover:
Materials:
Size 10 thread - designer used cranberry for Sample 1 and white/silver for Sample 2
Hook 1.75 mm
candy canes (6-7")
Needle to weave in ends.
Abbreviations:
Ch: chain
St(s): stitch(es)
Sc: single crochet
tr: triple (treble) crochet
dtr: double triple (treble) crochet
RS: right side
YO: yarn over
Stitches:
Triple (treble) Crochet : (tr) yo hook twice; insert hook in st indicated,
YO and pull up a loop, (YO and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times.
Double Triple (treble) Crochet : (dtr) yo hook three times; insert hook in st indicated,
YO and pull up a loop, (YO and draw through 2 loops on hook) 4 times.
Instructions:
Row 1: ch 80 + ch 5 (ch 5 counts as first tr + ch 1);
trc in 5th ch from hook, *(ch 1, skip next ch, tr in next ch).
Repeat from * across; ch 1, turn. (41 ch-1 sps)
Row 2: sc in first st, sc in each sp and st across to last st; sc in last st,
ch 2; working across bottom of piece skip 2 chs of turning ch, sc in next
ch of turning ch; work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in first ch-1 sp, sc in next ch-1 sp;
work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp, sc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * across;
sc in last st of this side,working across last side ch 2, join with sl st to first st
of other side.
Using needle weave in ends.
Place on candy cane by weaving Row 1 of cover over candy cane.
Weave candy cane through ch-1 sps where (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) were worked.
