Materials:
small amount of green worsted weight ( I used cotton but an acrylic will do)
small amount of brown worsted weight
small amount of white thread
clay pot with hole at top measuring 4" (for doorstop use bigger pot)
polyester stuffing (sand or kitty litter for door stop or paperweight)
strong glue/adhesive
straw flower
4 mm hook Conversion chart
tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Abbreviations:
Sc: single crochet
Sl: sl
St(s): stitch (es)
Ch: Chain
Sp: space
FLO/BLO: front loop only/back loop only

Special Stitches:
FLO/BLO: Front loop only/Back loop only

Instructions:
Pot: Rnd 1:Using 4 mm hook and brown ch 2, work 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. DO NOT join; place marker. (7 sc)
Rnd 2:work 2 sc in each st around; place marker. (14 sc)
Rnd 3:work 2 sc in first st, sc in next st, *work 2 sc in next st, sc in next st; repeat from * around. (21 sts)
Rnd 4:work 2 sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, *work 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts; repeat from * around. (28 sts)
Rnd 5: Using BLO sc in each st around. JOin with sl st to first st; fasten off. This rnd will form a lip on the dirt. This lip will be glued to the inside of the pot AFTER the pot is stuffed and patted down.

Stuff pot with polyester stuffing. Make sure to pat/push stuffing down so that the top of the stuffing is about even with the top of the pot.
Glue dirt to pot using lip created from Rnd 5 of dirt.

Cactus:
Row 1:Using green ch 18, sc in 2nd ch from hook and sc in each ch across; ch 1, turn. (17 sts)
Row 2: USING BLO for all remaining rows of cactus sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Row 3- 11: Using BLO sc in each st across; ch 1, turn.
Row 12: sc in each st across, fasten off.

With WS facing and using Fig 1 as a guide sew side AD to side BC. You could sl st the seams together instead of sewing.

Weave long piece of green through top row of cactus (weave in and out through sts); pulling tight to secure. Tie. Fasten off.

Turn cactus so RS facing. Stuff cactus with polyester stuffing.
Weave long piece of green through bottom row of cactus (weave in and out through sts);pulling tight to secure. Tie. Fasten off.
This will be the end you to the dirt once "needles" have been added.

Needles:
With thread randomly place needles using FLO left from cactus rows.
Needles are just small pieces of thread tied securely and clipped to size.

Glue cactus to dirt. Glue straw flower to top of cactus.

Paperweight:
To make this a paper weight add sand or kitty litter instead of polyester stuffing to the clay pot.

Doorstop:
This could also be made into a door stop by using a larger pot, sand and crocheting 3 or 4 cactus and securing to dirt.
The dirt size can be increased by adding one more st between the increase sts (the ones you worked 2 sc in) in each row.

GREAT gift idea for a friend who has no luck with plants.
GREAT bathroom plant as most bathrooms don't have a lot of light.
GREAT office plant or paperweight.
